Kris Steele

Mechanical Engineer

What is your role?

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, my role involves designing and developing mechanical systems for a wide range of projects across various sectors, including commercial, residential, and industrial. I take projects from the initial concept stage through to detailed design, ensuring that each system is efficient, reliable, and tailored to the specific needs of the client. Additionally, I am a qualified Energy Assessor, which allows me to integrate energy-efficient solutions into every project I work on, optimising performance and supporting sustainability targets.

My experience as a Mechanical Engineer has been incredibly fulfilling. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, which has allowed me to develop a broad skill set. I am highly competent in using Revit to model detailed designs and coordinate intricate and space-constrained mechanical systems, such as plant rooms, ensuring the efficient integration of all systems. I also use tools like IESVE to optimise energy performance in my designs and ensure compliance with regulations. Overall, it’s been a great blend of technical challenges, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering efficient, well-coordinated designs.

Barry Conner

Senior Mechanical Engineer

What is your role?

I joined ACTS Partnership Ltd in 2016 whilst studying Building Services Engineering at university. My first role within the company was a junior mechanical design engineer. Since joining ACTS, my engineering skillset has consistently developed over the years, working on an extensive list of projects across almost all industry sectors. I am now a senior engineer within the company, designing and managing complex projects – typically within the defence sector. I am also responsible for furthering the professional development of our graduate and intermediate engineers.

How would you describe your experience so far?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at ACTS Partnership. The company has been involved in many interesting and challenging projects, which keeps you on your toes as an engineer, demanding a deep understanding of engineering theory and underlying physics. It has been rewarding to see the company grow in recent times, particularly knowing that my contributions have played a small part in this. The company’s approach to delivering projects aligns with my own personal values – whereby no matter how big or small the task, it will always be done to the best of our ability.

What would you say is the best thing about the company?

As ACTS Partnership Ltd is not a large enterprise, our engineers are exposed to - and responsible for - all aspects of engineering design and consultation. This ensures that most days present a different challenge, and nobody is stuck doing the same repetitive task which you often come across with larger organisations. The company is involved in a large range of critical infrastructure projects which demand that you constantly evolve your understanding of the discipline. My favourite thing about working for ACTS is that I am afforded the freedom to shape projects and designs with ambitious or alternative ideas and have the luxury of being able to draw on a wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise from my colleagues throughout the company.
